Kansas City, Kansas
Kansas City, Kansas is a great destination for family vacations. There’s so much to do for everyone – from the interactive exhibits at the National Agricultural Center and Hall of Fame to the hands-on activities at Science City.
The kids will love getting up close with some of the animals at Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead or feeding the ducks at Shawnee Mission Park.
Don’t forget to take in some of Kansas City’s unique history by visiting Powell Gardens, an outdoor museum dedicated to preserving native prairie lands.
Visit Kansas City, KS Strawberry Hill for entertainment and dining options, or explore the art galleries in the historic River Market.

Take a stroll through the Overland Park Arboretum & Botanical Gardens, where you can soak up some sun while admiring the beautiful gardens and sculptures.
End the day with a delicious dinner at one of Overland Park’s cozy restaurants or spend some time browsing around Town Center Plaza.
Topeka
Topeka is the Sunflower State’s capital. It’s the perfect place to visit as you can hit several of the state’s natural attractions with Topeka as your home base.
There are tons of attractions to explore, such as the Combat Air Museum, the Topeka Zoo, and Lake Shawnee.
Have some fun in the sun at Reinisch Rose Garden or take a walk through the Potwin Historical District.
The Brown vs. Board of Education National Historic Site is also a must-see when visiting Topeka. This site commemorates the landmark civil rights case that forever changed America’s education system.
Don’t forget to explore Gage Park, where you can take a ride on the historic carousel or enjoy delicious food and live music.
While in Topeka, you can easily take a day trip to Clinton State Park, Eisenhower State Park, or the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve in the Flint Hills.
Flint Hills and Manhattan
Manhattan, Kansas, also known as the Little Apple is another great destination for a family vacation.
With its charming downtown and historic buildings, Manhattan and Junction City can serve as your base for exploring the Flint Hills.

Independence
Independence is another great place to visit with the family.
Fans of the Little House on the Prairie series will recognize Independence as the home of the Ingalls family. The family moved from their little house in the big woods of Wisconsin to wagon trail lands of Independence Kansas where Pa build their Little House on the Prairie.
Visit the Little House on the Prairie Museum and explore life in this frontier town.
Visiting the Little House site is an excellent opportunity to talk about the controversy of whether or not that land belonged to the family and their view of the natives that were living on the land before their arrival.

Oakley Kansas is a great place to visit with the family for a fun-filled vacation.
Oakley is the perfect base to explore Little Jerusalem State Park and Monument Rocks, two of the most iconic Kansas attractions for families.
A breathtaking collection of chalk formations, I felt like these rocks rose out of nowhere. Situated in the middle of endless miles of fields, badlands are a stunning sight to see.
What are badlands? Badlands are a type of landscape that is characterized by steep slopes, sheer cliffs, and dry terrain.
Take some time to explore the High Plains Museum, which honors the area’s rich Native American history.
While you’re in the area, visit Lake Scott and the Battle of the Punished Women monument.
In western Kansas, you can spot bison herds in unique white, golden, and multi colors. If you’re near Historic Lake Scott State Park, just 13 miles north of Scott City, swing by the Lake Scott Ranger station office to catch a glimpse of these majestic pure white creatures.

In Coolidge, I’d recommend staying at the Trail’s End Bed & Breakfast. This end-of-the-line location is just minutes from the Kansas and Colorado border. The Bed & Breakfast is quaint rooms and cabins with wonderful hospitality.
It’s said that this area was famous as cowboys would stop here before crossing cattle from Kansas to Colorado or vice versa. Working girls would ride out on horseback, naked, to meet the men. In fact, there’s still a law on the books in this small town that no woman can ride on a horse naked.
You may also remember Coolidge as the home of Cousin Eddie from the National Lampoon’s Vacation movies. In the original, as the Griswolds traveled cross country to get to Wally World, they stop in Coolidge, Kansas to visit Cousin Eddie. In Coolidge, you can stop and take a picture with the mural dedicated to our favorite family member.
Hutchinson
Visiting Hutchinson Kansas with the family is an excellent way to enjoy the sites and sounds of a small, unique town.
One great thing to explore is Hutchinson’s Coolidge Park, where you can take advantage of its open green spaces for picnicking or playing sports.
The Yoder Amish community in Hutchinson is a great stop for families to visit and explore. Tourists can take guided tours of the community, learning more about the lifestyle closely-knit Amish community and even enjoy traditional Amish meals prepared by locals.
Finally, check out The Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center – this interactive museum offers interactive exhibits that are engaging and educational for all ages.
Lindsborg
Lindsborg is a charming little town just south of Hutchinson that offers plenty of activities and sights for family travelers.
