Did you know Kansas City is in two states? Affectionally called, KCK and KCMO, Kansas City is actually bigger in Missouri rather than the Kansas side. Recently I was invited to stay at the Crowne Plaza Kansas City Downtown. If you’re searching for where to stay in Kansas City, its easy access to downtown Kansas City makes it one of the best places to stay. The hotel is in the Power and Light district, and within walking distance to the free KC streetcar, which could take me to more sights to see in KCMO.

I partnered with the Crowne Plaza to provide this review in exchange for my stay. All opinions are my own.

The Power and Light district was one of the best areas in Kansas City. Wandering amongst the historic buildings, enjoying live music,

Staying at the Crowne Plaza, you are a short walk to the Kansas City streetcar on Main Street. Additionally, you are steps away from performing arts venues throughout the metropolitan area.

If you’re attending events at the Kansas City Convention Center or sporting events at the T-Mobile Center, you are only a few blocks away.

The location is easy access to the Crossroads Arts District, the Liberty Memorial, the National WWI Museum.

A popular spot in the Kansas City area is the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. I did visit here, via a 30-minute bus ride. Alternatively, the location is about a 20-minute car ride.

The Crowne Plaza in downtown Kansas City is about a 30 minute Uber or Lyft ride from Kansas City International Airport.

The Crowne Plaza Work/Life Blend

As part of IHG Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plazas specializes in a work/life blend. This worked perfectly for me as this was a combination business and leisure trip, also known as bleisure.

I spent the first few hours of my trip exploring the heart of Kansas City. While I arrived prior to check-in, the friendly front desk staff stored my bags. As I mentioned above the Crowne Plaza’s downtown location made it easy to grab the KC Streetcar and venture into the Crossroads District and Union Station.

Upon my return to check in the hotel, which altered me through the IHG app that my room was ready, I settled into work. Not only does the Crowne Plaza offer free wi-fi, but I also found it to be strong wi-fi. I never had a problem connecting while there.

I enjoyed the spacious layout in my room to work at a desk, or seated comfortably on the bed. There are no shortages of charging ports throughout the room.

Even while waiting for my room to be ready, I took advantage of the ports and outlets surrounding the public areas and business center. I imagine if I was here for a conference, in the nearby Kansas City Convention Center, I could wait for my colleagues in the comfortable lobby while charging my devices for the day.

In addition to these amenities, the Crowne Plaza offers a fitness center and outdoor pool.

Additionally, the hotel offers a main dining room at The Depot. Currently, they are open Friday to Sunday for a delicious breakfast buffet from 6:30 am to 10:30 am. Prices are reasonable at $14.95 per adult.

Full Steam is an on-site coffee shop, open daily from 6:00 am to 1:00 pm for coffee and baked goods.

The Rail Bar and Bites is the hotel bar and lounge area open Tuesday to Saturday, from 5:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Finally, for all your grab-and-go needs, the lobby has an extensive marketplace with drinks, beers, wines, snacks, and more.

Guest Rooms

Let’s talk about the guest rooms at the Crowne Plaza in Kansas City.

I’ve already mentioned some of the modern amenities in the rooms with the focus on a work-life blend. As a travel writer, I am always working. Especially when I’m traveling. And sometimes good Wi-Fi is not only hard to come by, but costs extra. With technology these days, no hotel should be without strong and reliable Wi-Fi.

Additionally, I enjoyed the large windows overlooking the Power and Light Entertainment District.

The beds are luxuriously soft to the touch and I felt as if I were sleeping on a cloud.

Let’s talk storage in the room for a moment. What is up with these ultra-modern rooms that go for sleek design but offer zero places to put your clothes. I was immensely pleased to see a spacious countertop dresser in my room to unpack (and unsee) my items. It truly is a simple item such as a dresser that makes a world of difference in the stay.

In my review, I consider the Crowne Plaza a great place to combine business and leisure, work and pleasure. The memorable stay and central location make it one of the premier Kansas City accommodations.

The Crowne Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri checks off all the requirements I needed. While staying there I was able to work a bit, relax a bit, explore a bit.

Next time you’re searching for the best hotels that fits your needs, make sure you add any of the Crowne Plazas to your list. If the Crowne Plaza in the downtown area of Kansas City reflects the brand, you are in for an enjoyable stay.
