Located near Fort Morgan on a stretch of the peninsula in Gulf Shores, Alabama, The Beach Club Resort and Spa is a full-service vacation destination. This hidden gem is not so hidden in terms of size and amenities, yet is still tucked off the main road and far away from the more crowded areas of Gulf Shores. Here’s everything you need to plan a trip to The Beach Club by Spectrum Resorts.
I was hosted by The Beach Club by Spectrum Resorts. All opinions and reviews are my own.
Location of the Beach Club by Spectrum
Gulf Shores, Alabama is a popular retreat for its mix of laid-back community, super soft white sand beaches, and unique things to do in Gulf Shores. It’s popular for families, but when I visited in October, it was devoid of families and would make a great couples getaway.
The Beach Club Resort and Spa in Gulf Shores Alabama sits at the bottom of the state, at the end of the peninsula jutting out into the expansive ocean. It is one of the last resorts along a stretch of the peninsula between Bon Secour Bay the Gulf of Mexico. Fort Morgan
The location couldn’t be more perfect. Not only do you get the perfect sandy beach of the Gulf of Mexico, because of Gulf Shores at the northern edge of the Gulf, sunrise, and sunset both dip into the sparkling waters. It’s the best of both worlds.
Plus, because they’re further from the main strip, you have fewer touristy areas and attractions nearby.
Visiting in the fall, when the weather is better than summer and the summer tourism has gone home, allowed for a peaceful relaxing getaway.
Beach Club Resort and Spa
Because the Beach Club resort is a unique mix of individually owned units managed by Spectrum Resorts, no two condos and cottages are the same decor. However, each unit is listed with pictures on the website and floor plans are similar. You know what you’re booking beforehand so there should be no surprises.
Unlike a timeshare, you do NOT need to attend any presentations to stay here. Spectrum Rentals manages this and one other property and it truly feels like a resort with all the comforts of home.
Checking in was super easy thanks to the Beach Club’s exclusive app. Every unit has a keypad entry system and the code was in my app. I loved having the keypad entry as I didn’t have to worry about carrying a room key around with me. Plus, I was able to change the code via some instructions so I wouldn’t forget it either!
I stayed in a one-bedroom condo beachfront unit. Let me tell you I’ve never had a balcony as big as the one I did. I think that was one of the main appeals of the room. Had it been more than just me, we all would have had plenty of room to enjoy sunrise and sunset from the balcony.
Inside my condo, I had a fully stocked kitchen and living room. While I stopped to pick up a few groceries on the way in, I could easily see getting a week’s worth of groceries delivered.
I stayed in a one-bedroom with plenty of space. This unit could comfortably sleep six thanks to the pull-out sofa and hidden bunk beds.
Beach
The best part of any beach resort in my opinion is of course the beach. The Beach Club at Spectrum Resorts boasts 500 yards of perfect white sand beachfront. That’s 5 football fields by the way!
Here’s what I love about the beach in Gulf Shores. Both sunrise and sunset can be viewed from the same beach. Thanks to being on the north side of the Gulf of Mexico, sunrise occurs in the east to the left of the resort, and sunset in the west to the right.
Access the beach itself through one of four boardwalks stretching from the towers. Just like the beaches in Florida, stay off the dunes to protect the habitat and any living creatures that call it home.
While I was there, the waters were rough, so I did not go swimming. However, long stretches sitting on the soft white sand listening to the surf was all I needed. Beach rentals for chairs, umbrellas, kayaks, and paddleboards are available.
Flags are hoisted daily to let you know of the beach conditions.
- Green – Calm conditions
- Yellow – Moderate surf or currents
- Purple – Dangerous marine life (think jellyfish or man o’ wars)
- Red – High surf and strong currents
- Double Red – water closed to publis
Amenities
If the beach conditions are prime for swimming, never fear. The Beach Club Resort & Spa has a pool at each of its four towers, plus one inside and outside of the clubhouse area.
Additionally, amenities include:
- Fitness trail of 2.5 miles
- Fitness center
- game room
- Walking Trails
- Basketball, tennis, and shuffleboard courts
- Playground
- Arcade
- Daily kids activities
- shopping
Spa
The Spa and Salon at the Beach Club by Spectrum resorts states that you can walk in and float out. I love this idea.
I’m pleased to report that yes, you can float out, both literally and figuratively. I enjoyed a full-service spa and facial during my stay.
The spa is located at the clubhouse, in the center of the four towers. You can easily walk to it from any place on the property. The clubhouse has an indoor pool, sauna, and steam rooms.
The spa itself is bigger than it seems. A small waiting area is adjacent to the nail and hair salon area. The bathroom opens up to lockers with a single shower. Hidden away are multiple rooms ready for any of the massage and facial services you desire.
I thoroughly enjoyed both the massage and facial and felt well taken care of by each of my attendants.
Dining
During the busier months, there is no shortage of dining at the Beach Club Resort and Spa.
In the village, you’ll find, sports bar, food trucks, and ice cream. At the clubhouse, enjoy poolside dining at the bar & Grill. All of these close for the season when crowds are minimal.
Coast Restuarant, however, stays open year-round. Enjoy fresh seafood while sitting on their gulf front veranda for lunch. Or enjoy the clean beachy white vibes of the interior at dinner.
The menu is loaded with Navy Cove oysters, gulf shrimp, crab, fresh fish, and lobster selections. I sampled each with the gulf coast sampler. Every item was meaty, tender, lightly seasoned, and delicious. You can easily mess up seafood with overcooking chewy bites, but I found none of that at Coast.
If seafood is not your thing, New York Strip and Filet Mignon are offered.
And don’t forget dessert!
Overall I was very pleased with my stay in Gulf Shores at the Beach Club Resort and Spa. The location, both on the beach and away from the crowds, is unmatched. The incredibly spacious room and balcony would serve a visit of a few days to a few weeks if you had the time. Top it off with everything you need on-site for pampering, dining, and entertainment, it makes the Beach Club by Spectrum Resorts your all-in-one vacation destination.
