Sailing with Teenagers: Perfect Itinerary for a Sea Vacation with Your Family

Finding ways to keep your teens satisfied on vacation isn’t always easy, so why not give them the biggest distraction of all: the ocean?

If you’re starting to feel like you’ve been there and done that when it comes to holidaying, a cruise might be just the thing you need to break away from the usual holiday norms.

A Sea Travel Itinerary for a Vacation with Teens

This week-long cruise and sailing itinerary will keep you relaxed and your teens occupied, ensuring a memorable vacation for all.

Day 1 & 2: Depart from Boston, MA

Sailing from Boston Harbor is the perfect starting point for your sea vacation. Spend the morning checking in and exploring the ship before starting the journey to your next destination. 

The first two days are all about unwinding and enjoying the cuisine and entertainment the ship has to offer. You can also use your first days for some family bonding as you take in the ocean views.

Day 3: Bar Harbor, Maine

Your first stop on your cruise adventure will be Maine. There’s no better place to enjoy some time in nature and a few lobster rolls; McLoons Lobster Shack and Luke’s Lobster are two of the best spots.

While in Maine, take a scenic tour of Acadia National Park and enjoy the views from Cadillac Mountain. You can also take a trolley tour to the Portland Head Light before heading back to your ship.

Day 4: Saint John, New Brunswick

New Brunswick will be your first stop in Canada and is brimming with natural beauty, so don’t forget to pack your passports. 

The famous Reversing Falls is a must-see, as is the Bay of Fundy, which is home to the highest tides – they get up to 39 feet twice a day. However, during low tide, you can head to Hopewell Rocks, where you can walk along the ocean floor.

Day 5: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Your next Canadian stop will be the beautiful Halifax, a bustling city that your teens are going to love. Make some time to explore Downtown, especially if you’re in the mood for a good meal, but make sure you’re at the Halifax Citadel by noon for the daily cannon blast. 

If at this point your kids are feeling a little bored, head to the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic or the interactive Discovery Centre before ending your day at the waterfront.

Day 6 & 7: Head Home

The final two days will be spent travelling back to Boston. The ocean views are exceptional and there will be plenty to still do on the ship as a family, so get in some extra bonding time before life returns to normal.
