This is more of a beginner’s recommendation if you’ve never been to the U.S. before or if you’ve never really traveled outside of your home state.

New York

Perhaps one of the most obvious destinations to include here would be New York. However, people often forget that the majority of the population is crammed into New York City. This is the New York that you’ve seen in movies and it’s the city that you know from popular culture. The rest of New York is also unique in its own way, but there’s a good chance that New York City is where you want to be for your travel experience.

Colorado

Colorado has a massive tourism draw for multiple different reasons. Flights to places like Denver are inexpensive, and there are plenty of unique things to do in Leadville. You’ll find plenty of entertainment across all the major cities, and there’s plenty of wildlife and nature to explore as well. This makes Colorado a great destination if you want to hike around and see some amazing natural sights, but also if you want to party with some friends and enjoy the diverse nightlife that’s on offer. Wherever you go in Colorado, you’re guaranteed to have a fantastic time.

Texas

Texas is the biggest state and as such, there are countless destinations to explore and things to experience. With a unique culture, a deep history, and a range of entertainment to get involved with, Texas has become one of the most popular tourist destinations for people both inside and outside of the U.S. Austin is one of the most well-known cities in the state and is constantly referred to as one of the best tourist cities in the country. However, if you’re looking for a more authentic southern experience, then you should go a little further south to discover the history of Texas and its inhabitants.

Michigan

Coastal cities are popular destinations in the U.S. and Michigan is a fantastic example of somewhere that you should visit at least once in your life. People travel to Michigan to enjoy nature, but that doesn’t mean there are no interesting cities to visit. There are popular tourist destinations such as the capital, Lansing. You’ll also find Detroit which is well-known in popular culture. Michigan is certainly one of the most interesting places to visit, but it can be easy to dismiss it as just another coastal state.

California

California is one of the most diverse and different states in the country. There are countless tourist destinations to visit, there are well-known vacation spots such as San Francisco, and you’ll get access to many different kinds of cuisine that have been imported from around the world. California doesn’t need a massive introduction–it’s just one of those places that you should visit just because it’s so well-known and so packed with fun and interesting things to do, as well as great people who are friendly and welcoming. Visit California if you haven’t already–you won’t regret it!

Nevada

We can’t put together a list of the top U.S. states to travel to without including Nevada. Home to one of the world’s most legendary entertainment hubs, Nevada is well-known across the country as host to Las Vegas. However, dig a little deeper and you’ll find that Nevada is a lot more than just a desert with a casino oasis. With miles of canyons to explore, Nevada has some of the most beautiful and unique landscapes that you’ll see in the country. You can explore it on foot, or even drive dune buggies to tour the state at your own pace.

Hawaii

Hawaii is one of the must-see destinations if you’re ever touring the U.S. The Hawaiian Islands are iconic, they’re beautiful, and they’re a complete departure from the rest of the country. Tourists love Hawaii and it’s common for people in the U.S. to come and visit the islands for a recreational break or just to relax on the sandy beaches. There are jungle habitats for those who want to explore nature, there is plenty of nightlife, and there is delicious local cuisine to dig into. What more could you ask for from a holiday destination?

Alaska

We’ve put Alaska at the end because it’s one of the more unique and interesting places to visit. Alaska is separated from the main body of the U.S. There are thousands of miles of wilderness between it and the rest of the country, and this makes it one of the more attractive options for people who are looking to explore the fantastic scenery here. Anchorage is the typical city destination, and from there you can branch out and explore some of the other areas. However, do keep in mind that this is more a destination for people who are accustomed to traveling as there are limited transportation options.

Again, it’s important to remind you that all 50 states have something interesting, unique, and exciting to explore. Take this list with a grain of salt and consider it a guide for people who’ve never traveled or have yet to visit the U.S.
