Delaware is a state that you might not think about when considering travel destinations. It’s not New York, it’s not the Florida beach, but it is a beautiful place with many fun things to see and do. Here are just a few interesting sights to see in Wilmington, Delaware.
Delaware Art Museum
The Delaware Art Museum is an essential part of Delaware’s history and has been around for over a century. The city constructed the museum in honor of local Wilmington author and artist Howard Pyle. It’s a large museum with over nine acres of galleries to explore, and on top of the brilliant works you can find inside, there are also art classes, a children’s learning area, and a café. This museum is a must-stop for any art lover visiting the area interested in learning more about the history of American art.
After a museum, one of the next best things you can do in Wilmington is going to the Brandywine Zoo. They have a collection of various mammals that you may not see at other zoos across the country, such as capybaras, red pandas, and various primates. Brandywine is also known for having many unique birds and reptiles. In addition, they have a variety of on-site programs and events to make your visit more exciting. This zoo has also recently acquired a pudu named Haechan after a member of the K-pop band NCT 127!
Rockwood Park & Museum
An exciting piece of architecture in Wilmington that every visitor should see is the Rockwood Park & Museum. This museum is an estate that banker Joseph Shipley built in the 1850s, and it exemplifies Rural Gothic architecture. There are tours of the mansion Wednesday through Saturday. The park is also open every day from dawn to dusk. This spot is a great place to visit for history buffs, and you might even see a few ghosts on the supposedly haunted grounds.
These were some of the most interesting sights to see in Wilmington, Delaware, and any one of them is sure to entertain the whole family. However, make sure that you have the proper disabled parking permits for Delaware before you go. If you get a ticket or the city tows your car, it could ruin your entire trip. Ensure this doesn’t happen, and you will have a vacation you’ll be talking about for years.
