The majority of people like to take holidays around Christmas time. Whether you’re looking for a winter wonderland or warm weather, there’s something for everyone in the world at this time of year. The best thing about traveling is that no matter what your plans are if you keep an open mind and make the most out of every situation, you’ll have a fantastic time.
Here’s a list of some things you might not have done before:
Pick up a snowball (or make your own) and get ready to pelt your friends/family/whoever with them. Just don’t aim directly at anyone’s face.
Go ice skating
This doesn’t have to be somewhere super cold – indoor ice rinks are thought to be less dangerous for beginners. If you’re not wearing the right sort of shoes, they’ll give you rubber ones when you get there.
Build a snowman/woman
The traditional winter-wonderland activity. If you’re going somewhere really cold, it might be a good idea to bring a hat and scarf just in case.
Not an activity for your average week off, but if you can find a decent hill, this one’s great fun. If you’ve got plenty of room, go with some friends and make a competition out of it.
Many people like to travel to different countries for their holidays, but the world is probably larger than you think – try ice fishing in one of them. This can be done anywhere that has frozen, drinkable water (hehe).
Go on a hot-air balloon ride
If you’re looking for something even more exciting than sledding (and sled riding), maybe try doing it in the sky?
Build an igloo
Not many people get to say they’ve built their home/shelter, so this one is unique. You’ll need a lot of snow and a reasonably sturdy/flat piece of land, so it’ll probably depend on the weather.
Watch a sunrise or sunset
Sunsets are one of those things that never get old, no matter how many times you’ve seen them before. It’s also good to watch the sunrise if you didn’t stay up for the sunset – a rare occasion where you get to be a morning person.
Go on a road trip
If you’ve got a car and some petrol, there’s no reason why you can’t do this one. You could take your friends or family/whomever with you, but it’s also good to go on your own. Just make sure not to go too far if you don’t know where you’re going.
Try an Escape Room
It’s simple, straightforward, and relaxing – is one of those ‘go at any time’ suggestions and it’s a fun thing to do.
Head up a mountain
Most mountains are big enough to get snow sometimes (if not all the time), so you could make a snowman up one of them. If it’s too steep, don’t worry – you can always build your igloo at the bottom instead or just roll down!
Go to an amusement park
These are great places to take the kids if they’re into that sort of thing, but even if you’re an adult, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy yourself too.
Sometimes the best plan is no plan
If you didn’t plan on your travels, don’t worry – these are all things that can be done at short notice. You can bring the appropriate equipment with you, or most places will hire it out for a small fee.
Good luck! And most importantly of all, have fun!
