In the beginning there was this girl that longed to see more than just the lakeside town where she was from. That girl was me. Along the way I’ve added a husband, a son and a daughter who enjoy staying in hotels, eating a local restaurants and discovering the new and unique attractions along the way.
I started the Detail Oriented Traveler to show off who I am when I travel, the planner, the obsessed, the discoverer, you name it. I take travel when and wherever I can, even if it’s just a weekend getaway, finding something new and fun in our hometown in Florida or a cross country road trip extravaganza.
Even though locally we live and make a living by living near one of the most popular tourist attractions in the world, we long to get to know the out of the ordinary places and people better. I travel to find authentic experiences through local restaurants with a focus on homemade fare, mom and pop hotels where service is personal, or exploring nature and discovering more than just flora and fauna but a history to a way of life before we existed.
While from time to time I love the big tourist attractions (Hello Walt Disney World!) I love to support small business and go beyond the top tourist attractions and chain restaurants. Fortunately for me I have this great gang of compadres willing to indulge in discovering the hidden gems in our backyard or traveling off the beaten path on a cross-country road trip.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. I hope to hear from you what makes your hometown special and visit (either in person or virtually) to create a travel community full of the tiny details that makes travel and discovery fun.
